Claims/Drops/ Waiver Wire Explained

To view the entire blog go to: http://mbbl-trashtalk.blogspot.com/

Below I will attempt to clarify the league settings regarding the claims/drops and waiver wire pickup process:

Claims/Drops:
Players not on a roster are free agents. Each week, GMs can claim one free agent to their roster. The claims are processed on a first come first serve basis and the player is immediately added the the GM's team.

A restriction was placed on the number of free agent pickups to avoid the everyday adding and dropping of pitchers that we had last year. However, this rule still allows GMs the opportunity to make a mid week move to accommodate injury or take advantage of a good match up. At 5:00pm every Friday night all free agents are placed on waivers.

Waiver Wire Claims:
Each Friday night at 5:00pm all free agent players are placed on waivers. GMs can put in a claim to sign a player. On Saturday night at 11:55pm the waiver wire gets processed. Then the players that were claimed get added to their new respective team and the other players get returned to the free agent pool.

The waivers are processed based on the waiver wire claim order. (The current waiver wire claim order can be found on the Fantrax site. It is listed under the "Other" heading on the grey toolbar.)

There are no limitations to the number of waiver wire claims team can submit. They can claim as many players as they would like.

Explaining the Rotisserie Scoring System

Each team in a rotisserie league is ranked from first to last in each category selected in your league. Rotisserie points are then assigned to each team based on their ranking in each category.

Out rotisserie total, which will be used to determine your place in the league standings, will be the sum of each of your category scores.

In our 9-team league, the team that ranks first in a category is assigned 9 rotisserie points, the team that ranks second 8, third place is assigned 7, and so on until you reach the team ranking last in a category. That team gets one (1) point.

Our league is using 13 scoring categories. If you rank first in every category you would have 117 rotisserie points in the standings (9 roto points x 13 categories = 117).

Your roto score will rise and fall as the season progresses as your team rises and falls in each scoring category. Rotisserie points are based on cumulative season stats and not any single-day accumulation of stats.

Each scoring category has a weight of 1. This means that each stat is worth one point. (I.e. - 1 home run is equal to 1 point)

I hope this helps....

Draft Prep: Fantrax Site Does Rank Players!

Post available online at:

The league does rank rank the players according to our league settings. To view the default site rankings - go to the league site (www.fantrax.com).

"Rank Players" is listed an option on grey league toolbar. Clicking the link will allow you to see the default ranking for the site. You can adjust how the players are ranked to create your own list.

Fantrax's #1 ranked player is Matt Thorton. Other than this wild claim the site is basicly inline with other projections I've seen.

New League Rules

When entering the league rules I tried to formulate them around the spirit of the survey results. (The survey results are posted under the “League Information” section on the left.) However, one area where I went against the results was add/drop limits. I placed a limit on the amount of “Free Agent” pickups a team can do in a certain week. This limitation was done to avoid the adding and dropping of pitchers to pad stats. However, no limits were placed on waiver wire pickups so each team has an equal opportunity to improve lineup each week.

I also placed limits on the amount of reserve pitchers that can be on each team. I feel these restrictions will reward GMs that make wise moves as opposed to the GM that just makes any move.

Any of the rules can be changed. If you are not happy with a rule let it be known. I will then explain why I made the decision. If you are still unhappy with the reasoning behind the rule we can put the rule up for a vote.

Below is a summary of the league rules. I added commentary next to some of the rules. My commentary will be in red.

I hope the league meets your expectations.

New Year, New Everything...

The Muddy, Bloody Beer League is currently going through some changes. This site has been created to keep the league organized while preserving and honoring its history. The site is still a work in progress.

The site we ran the on league on previously, CBS Sports, has become too expensive to justify. Since the free service they provide won't allow for any customization. I searched for alternative sites to host our league. I have found one that is totally customizable (www.fantrax.com).

Please click on the link title “Survey” located on the left sidebar. There you will find a survey that I will use to create our new league rules. Several of the questions may lead to further questions and we can address them at a later point. Any comments or questions regarding the survey can be added to the “comments” section located at the bottom of the page.
